Season Outlook:

The Atlanta Braves are clearly still in a rebuild mode, but interestingly they acquired many veteran players to try and win at their new ballpark next season. For example, the Braves brought in Bartolo Colon, Jaime Garcia, R.A. Dickey, and Brandon Phillips to try and at least compete a little bit in 2017. None of those guys will probably make them a contender, but it at least shows that Atlanta is trying to contend at least while their talented prospects get ready to make an impact at the MLB level. Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp are the players that will clearly carry the offense with their ability to hit home runs. Dansby Swanson is a really talented shortstop that should continue to get even better in 2017. The rest of the lineup doesn’t look very appealing and it is unknown what kind of production that the Braves will get from veteran players Brandon Phillips and Nick Markakis. We pretty much know that Freeman and Kemp will show up offensively, but it is difficult to see the Braves offense being very productive overall. Meanwhile, the Braves pitching staff looks a lot different than it did a year ago with the offseason additions of Colon, Garcia, and Dickey. Julio Teheran is an all-star caliber pitcher for Atlanta and he is a building block for their future. However, the rest of the rotation is very unknown as to how good it will be next season. I expect Bartolo Colon to be a decent pitcher and Garcia certainly has proven that he can be a very good pitcher during his time in St. Louis. Foltynewicz and Dickey are the pitchers that are really a concern for the Braves since neither of those guys have been very productive recently. It is expected that Teheran will be an outstanding pitcher for Atlanta, but besides him the Braves pitching staff still isn’t very appealing. This Braves team overall doesn’t have a real strength on their team which is a cause for concern since their team has a ton of inconsistent players. Therefore, this team will probably finish last in the NL East in 2017.

Prediction: 5th place in the NL East
