One of the top position players in free agency this offseason has a new home as infielder Ben Zobrist signed a 4-year/$56 million contract with the Cubs on Tuesday. Zobrist is now reunited with his former manager in Tampa Bay, Joe Maddon. Zobrist can play multiple positions and that is why many teams coveted him so much. Also, he is a very productive offensive player as he hit .276 with 13 home runs and 56 RBI’s last season while helping to lead the Royals to a world series title. Zobrist will be the starting 2nd basemen for the Cubs in 2016 as the team traded Starlin Castro to the Yankees shortly after signing Zobrist. This is a really good signing for the Cubs and he not only is still a tremendous player, but he is also a good leader that can help the young Cubs players.
Grade: A – Zobrist is a very versatile player and he has the experience that can really help this young Cubs team. He may not put up amazing statistics, but he is certainly a very consistent offensive player.
